Elks on Refuge Shed Antlers; Public Auction Set

laramie, wy – Elk on the National Elk Refuge are starting to shed their antlers. And officials at the refuge are reminding the public not to venture out to collect the antlers. Lori Iverson is the Outdoor Recreation Planner at the Elk Refuge. Iverson says it's against federal regulations to remove antlers from or to trespass on the refuge. The local Boy Scouts have a special use permit and assist refuge personnel in collecting antlers. The scouts prepare the antlers for an annual public auction that is part of ElkFest. That takes place May 20th on the Town Square in Jackson.
