Environmental Coalition Weighs In On Western Energy
By Elsa Heidorn
Laramie, WY – The U.S. House Natural Resources Committee discussed the future of energy policy in the West today. As energy industry groups work to influence the committee, environmental groups are trying to influence them, too. A coalition of about 30 environmental groups from five Western states sent Congress their own energy agenda today. Linda Baker belongs to one of the Wyoming groups involved. It's called the Upper Green River Valley Coalition. Baker says the agenda tells Congress her group's priorities. "We'd like to see a step toward a cleaner, more diversified energy portfolio in this country," she said. "And there are certain places where oil and gas development are inappropriate. And so we'd like to see some areas off-limits," she added. Baker says they hope to get the attention of Representatives from all over the country with their energy agenda.
