Enzi Holds Firm On Troop Withdrawal
By Peter O'Dowd
Laramie, WY – On the sixth anniversary of September 11th and on the day General David Petraeus spoke before a Senate committee about the war's progress, Republican Senator Mike Enzi says the country must not forget the sacrifice of American troops.
"We do not want our troops to stay in Iraq longer than necessary, but we cannot abandon the efforts of people who have sacrificed so much," Enzi said in a prepared statement. "We must pursue the best strategy that will allow our armed personnel to stand down as the new Iraqi government and its security forces stand up."br>
Enzi says decisions on troop levels should be left to commanders on the ground in Iraq who are familiar with the situation not politicians in Washington. He does not support a timeline for troop withdrawal because it will simply allow the insurgents to wait until Americans leave.
