Enzi is still surprised by Cheney announcement

U-S Senator Mike Enzi says he remains surprised that Liz Cheney will run against him in the 2014 Republican primary, but he says he will go ahead with plans to run for re-election.  Enzi stands by his statement that Cheney told him that she would not challenge him, something Cheney denies.   He admits he’s surprised.

“I thought we were friends. (Not anymore?) Well I don’t have any reason not to. She hasn’t said anything she’s going to do or said anything bad about me yet.”

Senators John Barrasso and Cynthia Lummis both say that Enzi deserves to be re-elected to the U-S Senate.  Senator Barrasso says Enzi is his mentor and is a tremendous Senator for Wyoming.  Congresswoman Cynthia Lummis says since Enzi has lived and worked in Wyoming…he completely understands the needs of Wyoming people.  She’s disappointed with Cheney’s decision.

“I am just sorry to see this type of contention become part of the next year of politics in Wyoming.”

Enzi says that he will continue to concentrate on the job he was elected to do, noting that Wyoming people don’t like long campaigns.
