Enzi wants jobless benefits without added debt

Cheyenne, Wyo. – Sen. Mike Enzi has joined most fellow Republicans in the U.S. Senate in opposing the Democrat-sponsored legislation to restore unemployment benefits to millions of jobless workers.

Enzi says he supports extending the unemployment benefits but disagrees with how Democrats are paying for it.

The Wyoming Republican says Democrats are borrowing more money and adding $34 billion to an already staggering national debt when other options are available that wouldn't add to the debt.

Enzi says the unemployment benefits could be paid for with unspent federal stimulus money. But he says majority party Democrats rejected that idea.

Wyoming Republican Sen. John Barrasso also voted against the proposal.
