Casper, Wyo. – The Environmental Protection Agency has cited a number of Wyoming water operators for violations of the safe water drinking act. The orders and fines were both for water contamination and for failure to properly monitor systems. The largest fine of almost 13 thousand dollars was for the Ethete water system on the Wind River Reservation. The EPA's Lisa Kahn says the reason for the fine was for repeated violations. But Kahn says the good news is that the tribes are now getting help with taking samples and for properly operating the plant. Kahn says lack of monitoring across Wyoming is a concern, but she also adds that most public water systems in the state are very good.
