Even More Flu Cases

Laramie, Wy – The flu season just keeps getting worse in Wyoming.
The number of cases reported in Wyoming so far this fall has been rising exponentially. Health officials now say 806 flu cases have been identified statewide -- up from 475 cases last week and 209 the week before that. Just 533 cases were reported all last flu season.
By far the most cases have been in Laramie County, where 351 people have come down with the bug.
Meanwhile the state's health officer, Dr. Brent Sherard, says it is likely Wyoming will run out of flu vaccine by the end of this week.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials Monday asked state immunization officials how many doses they need. The state requested another seven-thousand doses.
But whether any of those doses makes it to Wyoming remains to be seen.
Vaccine supplies around the world are running thin. Meanwhile, vaccine manufacturers are unlikely to produce more vaccine because new doses wouldn't be ready until April -- well past the end of the flu season.
