LARAMIE, wyo – The director of a group called the Campaign for a Commercial Free Childhood says keeping children away from advertising is a growing challenge. Susan Linn is in Laramie as part of the U-W Consumer Issues Conference. Her group recently filed a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission regarding a cartoon series that features characters advertising a brand of shoes throughout the program. Linn is urging people to get involved in the complaint to try to stop this illegal practice.
"They want the children to nag parents for things and also they want cradle to grave brand loyalty," says Linn. "And a lifetime of brand loyalty is worth $100,000 per person."
Linn urges parents to keep their children from watching television and similar forms of media at a young age.
