Lararmie, Wy – Sixty-seven people will lose their jobs when a Casper closes. The American LaFrance fire truck and emergency vehicle plant is set to shut down in July.
This news wasn't a complete surprise to employees -- the company laid off 20 employees last month.
The plant began as Becker Fire Equipment Company in the mid-1980s. American LaFrance bought half of the company in 1999.
In December, the investment firm Patriarch Partners acquired American LaFrance from Freightliner. Local economic development officials and the Becker family tried to put together a buyout package, but those plans fell apart and the closing was announced.
The company still has 30 trucks in production for 21 communities nationwide. Those trucks are expected to be completed before the plant is shut down.
