First Lady Pushes Drinking Initiative

Cheyenne, Wy – Households across Wyoming with children
between the ages of 8 and 17 will soon receive a letter from
Wyoming first lady Nancy Freudenthal encouraging parents to talk to
their children about not drinking.
The letter will be accompanied by information from an
Anheuser-Busch Companies program called Family Talk About Drinking,
which provides parents advice on how to talk to children about not
drinking. The letter will be sent to more than 15,500 Wyoming
households.
With prom and graduation season around the corner, Freudenthal
says it's a perfect time for Wyoming's parents to talk with their
children about how to celebrate responsibly - and that means not
drinking.
A recent survey conducted by the Centers for Disease Control
found that fewer Wyoming youth are partaking in binge drinking - 32
percent in 2005 versus 35 percent in 2003 - and riding in cars with
someone who's been drinking - 37 percent in 2005 versus 40 percent
in 2003.
