First Woman Will Take Over Army National Guard

Laramie, Wy – The Wyoming Army National Guard will soon have its first female commander. Colonel Kathy Wright takes over the position in January of 2009.
With the position, she also will assume the duties of the assistant adjutant general.
Wright will be promoted to brigadier general when she assumes command. That will make her the second woman in the Wyoming National Guard to hold that rank and command status.
Wright currently is the director for human resources for the Wyoming Guard and the director of manpower and personnel for the Joint Forces Headquarters in Cheyenne.
She enlisted in 1973, becoming just the sixth woman in the Wyoming Army National Guard.
Wright has a bachelor's and a master's degree from the University of Wyoming and a master's degree from the U-S Army War College.
