Laramie, Wy – So far this year six people in Fremont County have committed suicide. This is especially troubling because the suicide rate in Fremont County in 2005 was already twice the national average.
But, officials from the county and the Wind River Reservation have teamed up to do a public education campaign. The goal is to make sure people know there is help available. The co-chair of the Northern Arapahoe Business Council, Anthony Addison says creating awareness about the problem is key.
The suicide rate for Native Americans is higher than the national average, but last year in Fremont County of the 13 suicides eleven of the victims were white and only two were Native Americans.
