Fremont County is optimistic about tourism season

Lander, WY – Fremont County officials are hoping that state and local efforts to promote tourism will continue to drive more visitors to the county this year. Wind River Visitors Council Marketing Director Paula McCormick says the county suffered greatly in 2009, when fewer tourists came to the region. But she says new data confirms that Fremont County bounced back in 2010.
"Our numbers are certainly up in 2010 over 2009, the Wind River Visitors Council total direct spending in Fremont County alone was 128 million dollars from travelers."
McCormick says many businesses in the county cannot survive on local patrons alone. She says Fremont County hopes to benefit from the fact that Dubois was recently recognized by True West Magazine while Outdoor Life and National Geographic both mentioned Lander in articles about adventure and sportsmen.
