Fremont County will have to change how it elects County Commissioners

Casper, Wy – Fremont County may no longer use an at large method of choosing County Commissioners. U-S District Judge Alan Johnson ruled that the method violates the Voting Rights Act because if dilutes the strength of the Native American vote. The county will have to develop single member districts by June 30th that will give the Wind River Reservation better representation on the five member board of County Commissioners. A lawsuit in the case was filed in 2007.
