Cheyenne, Wyo. – Governor Dave Freudenthal fears that unemployment in the state will get worse before it gets better. The Governor says he will try to provide some construction money in his budget to maintain some jobs, but he says there is only so much the state can do because of a lack of money. Freudenthal says the dynamic in Wyoming is different than it has been in the past.
"You know one of the reasons that unemployment numbers have traditionally stayed low here is that when people get unemployed here they leave," he said. "They go home. Because usually it's easier to find a job at home. A lot of people who I talked to say that things aren't real good in Wyoming, but they are lot better than where I came from in Michigan, or Colorado."
Freudenthal is crafting his proposed budget. He predicts that the state will probably see at least two more difficult financial years before the economy turns around.
