Freudenthal praises but doesn't endorse Petersen

Cheyenne, Wyo. – Gov. Dave Freudenthal says Democratic gubernatorial candidate Leslie Petersen is fully qualified to serve as governor, but he stopped short of giving her his formal
endorsement.

Freudenthal appeared with Petersen on Tuesday at the state Capitol in Cheyenne. He says voters need to consider Petersen's governmental experience, including her time as a Teton County commissioner.

But Freudenthal says it's not his job in a democracy to pick his successor, and says the voters wouldn't listen to him if he tried.

Petersen is a former Wyoming Democratic Party chairwoman. She's running against Republican Matt Mead, a former U.S. Attorney in the state.

Freudenthal says he's friends with Mead and also called him a qualified candidate.
