Freudenthal Sends Wolf Letter to Feds

Cheyenne, WY – Governor Dave Freudenthal is hoping a letter might resolve his most recent dispute with the US Fish and Wildlife service. The fight is over just what Wyoming's management plan would be if wolves are no longer protected by the federal government. Regional Fish and Wildlife Director Mitch King wants a wolf management plan from the state, or else the agency will only work with Montana and Idaho to remove protections for wolves. But Governor Freudenthal says the legislature essentially did everything King is asking for when it passed a wolf management law this year. King had given Wyoming until May first to send in a wolf management plan, but Freudenthal has said he did not understand the purpose of that deadline.
