Laramie, Wy – The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is worried about an increase in poaching around oil and gas drilling sites. Specifically the agency is concerned about Southwestern Wyoming, where there has been a lot more drilling recently. The agency has investigated three poaching incidents in that region this year. Game Warden Dave Hays says they have some similarities: they involve workers on oil rigs, the people involved had a lot of time on their hands, ample wildlife and the men just went out with a rifle and shot some stuff.
Hays hopes these are isolated incidents but he says there is the potential for a lot of poaching because the drill sites are so isolated. He notes rig workers are often very close knit and not likely to report any crimes to authorities.
These cases involve a total of three deer and six antelope.
