Laramie, WY – The Wyoming Game and Fish Department says people hunting for deer and elk antlers have been taking a toll on wildlife in western Wyoming this winter.
The agency's Stop Poaching Hotline was inundated last weekend with calls about people and their dogs chasing elk and deer. Many of the calls came from the Cokeville area.
Game and Fish regional spokeswoman Lucy Wold says some of the callers complained about people on snowshoes chasing off elk and deer so they could get to the antlers they had shed.
Wildlife watchers have been congregating along U.S. Highway 30 outside Cokeville. Game warden Neil Hymas says deer, elk and antelope have been moving alongside the highway in search of food.
