Laramie, Wy – As gas prices continue to rise, school districts are looking at how to not break the bank as they prepare for bus trips in their districts and across the state. The Department of Education reimburses districts 100 percent of fuel costs, but not until the end of the school year. Leeds Pickering who oversees the Departments transportation program says they are asking districts to reduce bus idling try and combine trips and attempt to conserve as much as possible. Pickering says they have tried to prepare for high gas costs as best they can, but that there is only so much they can do. Districts must pay the gas prices in the short term and many are taking the money out of their reserves.
