Thermopolis, WY – A jury in Thermopolis has convicted a
Gillette man of eight counts of sexual assault on a teenage boy.
Sentencing hasn't been set yet for Kent Proffit Senior, but he's already facing a long time in prison. That's because he was sentenced earlier this year for his role in two murders, including ordering the death of the teen he'd sexually assaulted.
Proffit was scheduled to go to trial in late 2005 on the sexual assault charges, but the trial was postponed when 16-year-old Bryce Chavers was found shot to death in his bed. Authorities initially
described Chavers as a witness, but eventually revealed that Chavers was the victim in the sexual assault case.
Three young men were convicted for their roles in killing Chavers and another teen, Jeremy Forquer, before Proffit was, himself, convicted.
