Gillette, Wy – A former Gillette police officer pleaded
guilty on Thursday to a felony drug charge.
Twenty-three-year-old Thomas Brent Clark pleaded guilty to one
count of conspiracy to deliver marijuana. Prosecutors agreed to
dismiss another felony charge of delivery of marijuana and agreed
to recommend that he not serve any prison time.
Clark was hired by the Gillette Police Department in January and
worked there until the middle of March.
Prosecutors charge that Clark in February took about a pound of
marijuana from his father's patrol car. Officials say Clark's
father is a deputy in Uinta County who handles a drug-sniffing dog
and kept the drug in his car for training purposes.
District Judge Dan R. Price II is not bound by the plea
agreement. The judge could order Clark to serve up to 10 years in
prison when he sentences him in coming weeks.
