Gold Plans Cause Concern

South Pass City, WY – Conservation groups and historians are concerned about plans for gold exploration on South Pass. The Alliance for Historic Wyoming is worried about the possible effects that mining could have on sage grouse and historic emigrant trails. The Oregon, California, Pony Express and Mormon Pioneer trails converge in the area proposed for gold exploration by a Canadian company. Steve Cameron is president of Fremont Gold Corporation. He says until more is known about the underground deposits, his company cannot offer a mine plan. But he says any plan would have to be consistent with other land uses in the South Pass area.
