Gov. Picks New Top Educator
Laramie, Wy – Less than 20 days after Trent Blankenship stepped down as the state's top educator, Wyoming has a new Superintendent of Public Instruction. Jim McBride takes over the position after the Republican Party selected him as one of three finalists for the position.
This morning Governor Dave Freudenthal announced that of the three finalists McBride is his selection. He says that McBride brings remarkable credentials, a wide variety of experience and the leadership skills needed by the Department of Education at this point in our history. I am equally impressed by his commitment to our children's education and the importance of accountability and excellence.
For the last two years McBride was the head of the distance education program at the state Department of Education. Before that McBride was superintendent at a school district in Colorado. He also served in the military for 20 years.
McBride was sworn into office this morning.
