Governor Meets With Tribe

Riverton,Wy – Governor Freudenthal met with Northern Arapaho tribal leaders in a cordial but candid discussion about a number of issues in an effort to smooth out his
rocky relationship with the tribe.
Among the topics discussed in the meeting yesterday (Friday)
were the governor's budget, tribal gambling, severance taxes and
tribal sovereignty.
Freudenthal expressed displeasure that disagreements were being
aired in the press instead of privately.
Tribal business council chairman Rick Brannan blamed
miscommunication. He wanted to put the disagreement behind and move
forward on solving other problems.
Both sides agreed that more communication would solve
misunderstandings and result in a more amiable relationship.
Freudenthal also met separately with Eastern Shoshone and
Riverton leaders.
