The Governor is hesitant about the idea of making women on Medicaid put up money to pay for child birth. A committee from the state legislature discussed that option this week. Governor Dave Freudenthal says requiring co-payments from people on Medicaid is sometimes useful, because it can make them think before seeking medical treatment, but in the case of pregnancy Freudenthal says he's not sure if a co-payment is applicable. Medicaid is designed to help people who may not be able to afford it pay for all or part of their health care. The cost for the state of Wyoming is going up because the federal government is now paying for a smaller share of Medicaid.
