Governor pushes wind tax

Cheyenne, Wy – Wyoming Gov. Dave Freudenthal says he's working with lawmakers on a proposal for the upcoming Legislature to tax wind energy production.
Freudenthal says the wind industry should contribute to state
and county revenues through taxation just as other energy
industries do.
In November, the Joint Revenue Committee voted against
sponsoring two bills to tax wind energy generation.
Freudenthal wouldn't discuss specifics of a potential new wind
tax bill during a Friday interview.
A representative of the Wyoming Power Producers Coalition, an
industry group, says the group is meeting with the Governor's
Office on Thursday to discuss the tax issue.
