Governor wants education improvements

Cheyenne, Wy – Gov. Dave Freudenthal says Wyoming needs to look beyond its schools to improve its dropout rate. Freudenthal spoke Thursday at an education summit in Cheyenne.
The summit focuses on Wyoming's dropout rate, which has been
increasing for a decade.
Education Week magazine put Wyoming's graduation rate at 73
percent in 2006.
Freudenthal says Wyoming has been pouring money into education
at a rate that's the envy of the country. He says the state should
be able to maintain that funding despite a recent decline in state
revenue.
But Freudenthal says lowering the dropout rate will take more
than money. He says the state also needs to examine its approaches
to early childhood intervention, child care and juvenile justice.
