Governor Won't Commit On Caps Measure
Cheyenne, Wy –
Governor Dave Freudenthal says the vote citizens will make Tuesday on two constitutional amendments concerning medical malpractice is all about tools. Passage of the amendments will allow legislators to cap non-economic damage awards in medical malpractice cases and allow the formation of a medical review panel that could weed out frivolous lawsuits in such cases. Freudenthal has been non-committal on the caps amendment, but thinks the review panel should be considered. But he stresses that citizens are simply being asked a couple of questions, on whether they want to give legislators permission to do some things they are currently not allowed.
Freudenthal has said that following the vote, lawmakers will know whether they can use these tools, or move onto some other possible remedies.
