Cheyenne, WY – The governor's plan for reducing property taxes for seniors suffered a setback Friday.
The state legislature's revenue committee decided not to sponsor this bill and that greatly reduces the likelihood the tax exemption will go through this year. The Senate chair of the committee Jim Anderson says the proposal lacked support because it would apply to all seniors.
Other members expressed concern because this proposal is coming to them during an election year.
A chief sponsor of the bill says she's disappointed that the committee decided not to help out seniors who are struggling to pay rapidly increasing property taxes.
