Grizzly Plan Gets Mixed Reviews

Cody, WY – There are mixed reviews of efforts to move forward with delisting the Grizzly Bear following the release of a draft environmental impact statement. The six national forests in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem released the draft plan and will take comments until November. Some county commissioners in the area are concerned no new campgrounds will be built and there will be too little access to roads. But Shoshone National Forest Bear Biologist Kim BArber says they will just continue doing what they have done for the last few years. On the other side, some conservationists fear moving the Grizzlies off the endangered species list could put the animals at risk in a few years. Barber says all these issues will be regularly reviewed and management practices can be adjusted. He says if all goes according to plan, grizzlies could be delisted by 2005.
