Kemmerer, WY – The Wyoming Outdoor Council says the federal government's proposed land-use plan for Kemmerer does not protect crucial migration routes for wildlife.
Bruce Pendery is a staff attorney for the group. He says the Bureau of Land Management's Kemmerer plan puts about 13 percent of the area off-limits to oil and gas leasing. He says that does not reflect the state's policy of protecting wildlife: "If full accounting of those significant wildlife habitats were taken into account and then, the percentage would increase substantially."
But an industry representative says about 51 percent of the Kemmerer land has drilling restrictions on it. She says that will not let the industry develop the resource fully.
