Hathaway College Scholarships Likely to Become Reality

Cheyenne, WY – A much anticipated measure now heads to the Senate floor: the Hathaway scholarship plan got unanimous support from the Senate education committee. The bill would provide three levels of funding depending on the type of student, but at the very least a student could get 800 dollars a year towards his or her college education. The committee amended the bill allowing someone to qualify for scholarship money if they were a Wyoming resident, but graduated from another high school. Critics suggest the bill could be too inclusive, but Senator Tex Boggs disagrees. Boggs says the legislature has a chance to refocus students across the state to pay closer attention to their education. He considers it one of the most important things lawmakers have ever passed. It should hit the Senate floor later this week.
