Laramie, Wy – The Wyoming Department of Health is urging high risk individuals to get flu shots. Those include people with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder and heart disease.
About 36-thousand people across the country die from the flu each year. Risk of developing serious complications, such as pneumonia, increases for individuals with chronic illness.
Yet, the Health Department says only a fraction of those high-risk patients get their flu shot. It's estimated that only one-third of all asthmatic adults and one-fifth of asthmatic adults younger than 50 years of age receive the flu vaccine annually.
