House gives first approval to wind tax bill
Cheyenne, WY – The Wyoming House of Representatives has given initial approval to a bill that would set up a mechanism to tax wind energy development. Most of the debate centered on whether a study should occur before lawmakers move forward with a tax. Laramie Representative Kermit Brown says it is important that industry knows that a tax is coming. He also says local government should know that they will be compensated for impacts they are currently facing.
Opponents of the wind tax argued that the committee is moving too quickly and they should take time to make sure the bill is drafted correctly. The house will debate the bill two more times.
