House Kills the "Right To Know" Bill
Cheyenne, WY – The Wyoming House has killed a controversial measure designed to force doctors to discuss abortions with women seeking them. The bill was viewed by pro choice groups as a way to keep women from seeking abortions. The bill required doctors to discuss details of an abortion, show a video, and provide reading materials. Women would then have to wait 24 hours before a procedure could take place. Chief sponsor Bob Brechtel says the intention was not to stop abortions from taking place, but Campbell County Representative Sue Wallis strongly disagreed, calling the idea a way to intimidatewomen. Representative Jane Warren added that she thinks it's wrong for the legislature to get involved with discussions between a woman and her doctor.
