Laramie, WY – The Mayor of Laramie says the town's unusual demographics mean there is a shortage of affordable housing. Klaus Hanson says many of the rental properties that would be affordable to low-income families get rented instead by students. And he says some homes that low-income families might be able to buy are sold to a higher bidder: parents of students at the University, who then rent the properties out.
Hanson says the city council studied affordable housing in 2003 and found it was in short supply, but he says not much has been done about the problem since.
