Laramie, WY – The Wyoming Highway Patrol had to clean up a hazardous spill yesterday when a semi carrying hydrochloric acid started leaking while on I-90. Troopers responded by closing the interstate and calling in firefighters in haz-mat suits. There were more than 4000 gallons of the acid on board and about five gallons spilled, damaging the truck, but not doing any other serious damage.
The acid was eventually moved to another semi, while the driver of the first truck was treated on the scene after inhaling fumes.
The semi was traveling from Upton, Wyoming to an oilfield near Gillette. It's unknown what the acid is used for.
