Iowa man drowns while fishing in Yellowstone
Laramie, WY – A 65-year-old man from Iowa is dead after being swept down a river while fishing in Yellowstone National Park.
The incident occurred about noon Thursday while the man was fishing in the Yellowstone River.
The Park Service says he lost his footing while attempting to walk out to a small island in the middle of the river. Rangers found the man's body nearly six miles downstream.
The Park Service says the victim had underlying health issues, which may have contributed to the accident. The cause of death remains under investigation.
The National Park Service did not release the man's name pending notification of relatives but said he was from Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
