Jackson, WY – Authorities have identified the cause of
death of a Jackson skier who was killed in an avalanche on Friday.
Teton County Coroner Bob Campbell says that 25-year-old Justin Kautz died of massive internal injuries.
Kautz and two other skiers were swept off a cliff by the avalanche. Rescuers reached him shortly after the incident but he soon stopped breathing and efforts to save him were unsuccessful.
Kautz was the seventh person killed in an avalanche in North America and the fifth killed in the Yellowstone region this season. The four other deaths in the region all involved snowmobilers.
