Jackson, Wy – Extreme skier and Jackson Hole mountaineer
and guide Doug Coombs has died in the French Alps.
Officials say the 48-year-old Coombs slipped and fell over a
cliff while trying to aid a friend who had plunged over the same
precipice on Monday.
The accident occurred near a resort in southeast France.
Coombs was a two-time winner of the World Extreme Skiing
Championships in Alaska and served as ski ambassador for Jackson
Hole Mountain Resort in the early 1990s.
He is survived by his wife and three-year-old son.
