Casper, Wy – Former Minerals Management Service Director Johnnie Burton says in the five years she oversaw the agency there were never relaxed rules to make things less safe for off shore oil wells. Speaking for the first time about the B-P oil spill, Burton told the Casper Star Tribune that she was unaware of any lax enforcement or inadequate oil spill response plans. She said that offshore drilling had been occurring for 50 years with few problems until the B-P incident. Burton oversaw the agency for five years until 2007. She currently works for U-S Representative Cynthia Lummis. Burton is also the former director of the Wyoming department of revenue and was a state legislator from Casper.
