Judge OKs Red Desert Seismic Survey
Green River, WY – A federal judge says energy companies
may proceed with a controversial seismic survey in the Red Desert area of southwestern Wyoming.
Officials with the U- Bureau of Land Management say they're
pleased that the administrative appeals judge has lifted a previous order that halted the Cherokee West 3-D seismic survey project.
The Kerr-McGee Corporation proposed the survey project last year. A B-L-M official says Kerr-McGee is working with Global Geophysical Services of Houston on the project.
The companies plan to look for pockets of natural gas in a 164-square-mile area of the southern Red Desert.
Conservationists have opposed the survey project, saying energy development could threaten the fragile desert landscape.
