Labor Bill Hits Snag
By Bob Beck
Cheyenne, WY – A bill supported by a number of organizations representing workers is facing problems. It would provide workers compensation to those who have suffered mental injuries on the job. But supporters say the bill was gutted by amendments, which removed first responders, such as firefighters from the bill. Senator John Hastert says the need for such legislation is great. "I was talking to some firefighers, and trying to tie the physical injury to the mental injury does not corelate to post traumatic stress. So an individual can never get that assistance under those types of guidelines. And there is times when our firefighers needs that kind of help," Senator Hastert says.
Hastert says they are working to fix the bill but right now he cannot support it. Meanwhile, the House gave final approval to a separate workers compensation reform measure that raises Wyoming's death benefits, among other things.
