Firefighting resources are stretched thin in the West right now. Numerous Forest Service and BLM personnel have responded to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Plus, the main part of summer wildfire crews, college students, are now back at school. Medicine Bow National Forest Spokeswoman Liz Moncrief says the situation is not critical right now and no one anticipates a major problem. But she can imagine a scenario where there could be some difficulty, if something serious breaks out.
Moncrief says if a forest needs a lot of firefighters, they'll get them. However she says it might be difficult to get those people on the ground in a timely fashion.
