Laramie, WY – Laramie-based Big Horn Lumber told workers early this month that it is going out of business. It's the second largest sawmill in the state, and it employs 67 people. The company saw sales slide by 50 percent over the last four months, as new housing construction fell to record lows.
General manager Don Adams says work at the mill will end in stages. The last logs, coming in this week, will be sawed and planed. "Then it will just be a small shipping crew until we get everything shipped out," he said. Adams expects Big Horn Lumber will end all operations by early May.
The mill has operated on the same site in west Laramie since the mid-1950s.
