Cheyenne,Wy – The crime rate in Cheyenne and Laramie County is up about 25 percent in the first three months of the year compared with the same period last year.
Statistics from the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation
show larceny was responsible for most of the increase in both the
city and the county.
Burglaries nearly doubled in Cheyenne, from 31 in the first
quarter of 2009 to 60 in the same period this year.
Police spokesman Sgt. Rob Dafoe says the rise in burglaries
doesn't concern him because burglaries tend to occur in spikes.
Dafoe says the first quarter of the year generally has a lower
crime rate than the rest of the year because of winter weather. He
says he doesn't have a good explanation for this year's increase.
