Laramie residents concerned about animal shelter policy

Laramie, Wyo. – Some residents of Laramie are concerned about the number of dogs and cats being killed at the city's animal shelter. Numbers provided by the citizens show that the number of euthanasias almost quadrupled between 2004 and 2008.

One Laramie resident, Neil Day, says he heard about the kill rate increasing from people he knows who volunteer at the shelter. He says this has him troubled. "I just think the shelter has been doing a great disservice to this community," he said. "They've killed healthy animals, it's just ridiculous."

The mayor of Laramie says this was the first she had heard about the number of euthanasias and that she and the city council will work to find out what is happening at the shelter.
