Lawmakers Have Less Money to Work With
Cheyenne, WY – Make no mistake, the Wyoming legislature will have much less money to spend then it thought. Lower than expected energy prices is starting to get lawmakers attention as they debate the supplemental budget this week. Senate President John Hines remembers being in the legislature when budget cuts occurred most years. He says keeping spending down will be critical if they want enough money for the future because the budget is bigger now and it will be hard to maintain that level of spending.
Hines says he won't set any formal policy for Republicans to follow, but he does hope they understand how serious the situation could be.
Meanwhile Governor Dave Freudenthal has alerted agency heads to begin looking at ways to reduce their budgets this summer.
