Cheyenne, WY – A program that would provide legal aid to the poor in civil cases has received initial support from the Wyoming House of Representatives. Cheyenne Democrat Mary Throne says many low income people need legal assistance in domestic disputes
"I can't tell you how many constituents I have heard from who were unrepresented in a divorce and it causes problems later for their children. It will help folks entitled to rights survive the legal system."
The legal services program would be funded by an increase in various court fees. It has the support of the state bar association and many others in the legal community. The house added an amendment to the bill to review the program every two years. The bill will be debated two more times.
